The Software I Recommend to Church Leaders

Every week pastors ask me the same question: what should we actually be using? This is the running list — the tools I recommend, why they matter, and where to start.
The Short Answer
The software I recommend to church leaders covers six jobs: a fast mobile website (The Church Co), automated guest follow-up (FrontDoor), text-first communication (Text In Church), ministry-trained AI copy (ChurchCopy.ai), multi-camera livestream (Switcher Studio), and a professional remote audio mix (Audiolink). Start with the website and follow-up — those two decide whether a first-time guest becomes a second-time guest.
Key Takeaways
- Fix the website and guest follow-up before buying any media gear — that is where churches lose people.
- Audio matters more than camera quality for online services; people leave a stream they cannot hear.
- AI belongs on the calendar, not the calling: use it for admin, repurposing, and copy — never the message itself.
- Pick one tool per bottleneck. A stack of six tools nobody owns is worse than two tools someone runs well.
- Every tool here is one I use or would put in front of a church I serve.
Every week a pastor or ministry leader asks me some version of the same question: what software should we actually be using? Not the trendiest thing on the internet — the tools that will genuinely help a small team reach more people without burning out.
This is that list. It is the same list I hand to churches inside Marketing Co-op, and I keep it current. Some of these are tools I use every single day. Some are ones I have watched transform a church's Sunday. None of them are here because someone paid to be here.
Technology will never replace discipleship. But the right tools give your team back the hours they need to do it well.
Which five tools should a church start with?
If you only have budget or bandwidth for a handful of changes this quarter, start with these. Each one removes a bottleneck that is quietly costing your church growth.
Websites & Guest Follow-Up
Church.co Websites
A complete digital platform for your church: website, app, and a team to manage everything, starting at $29/mo. In my opinion the best church website platform out there.
Your website is your front door. If a guest cannot find service times in ten seconds on their phone, you are losing them before they ever visit.
Use promo code "TCMM" for 5% off — plus 40% off Premium and higher for the first two years.
Websites & Guest Follow-Up
FrontDoor
A done-for-you, automated visitor marketing tool designed to double your first-time guests without spending a ton on ads.
Most churches capture a first-time guest's information and then do nothing with it for two weeks. Automated follow-up fixes that overnight.
Communication
Text In Church
Easy-to-use communication tools that help churches connect with members and guests beyond Sunday morning so they feel known, noticed, and loved.
Email gets ignored. Text gets read. This is the simplest way to make members and guests feel known between Sundays.
AI & Content
ChurchCopy.ai
AI-powered, ministry-minded copywriting that helps your church communicate with clarity, consistency, and care.
Writing announcements, emails, and series descriptions eats a communications director alive. AI that understands ministry language gives that time back.
Use promo code "chandlerdb" for 10% off any plan for the first year.
Media & Production
Switcher Studio
An easy-to-use livestreaming and video creation platform that lets churches stream high-quality services using iPhones and iPads they already own — no expensive cameras or full production team required.
You do not need a $40,000 camera package to stream well. You need good framing, good audio, and consistency.

Online Church Analytics
Tools to grow your church's online presence and actually monitor how it is performing week to week.
Know whether any of it is actually working.
How should you actually use this list?
- Pick one bottleneck — guest follow-up, website, audio, content — not five.
- Fix it completely before you add another tool to the stack.
- Give one person ownership. Software with no owner becomes shelfware.
- Measure something. If you cannot tell whether it worked, you will not keep doing it.
I go deeper on individual categories in new posts every week. If you want help building the whole stack for your church, book a partnership call and let's talk through it.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What software does a small church actually need?
- A mobile-fast website, an automated guest follow-up system, a text messaging platform, and a reliable way to stream. Everything else is optional until those four are working. A church under 200 people can cover all four for less than most churches spend on one camera.
- Where should a church start if the budget is tight?
- Start with the website and guest follow-up. Those two determine whether the people already interested in your church ever walk in. Media and production tools amplify a front door that works; they cannot fix one that does not.
- Are these affiliate recommendations?
- Some links on the site are affiliate or partner links, and that is disclosed on every post. Nothing appears on this list because someone paid for placement — these are tools I use or would put in front of a church I serve.
- How often is this list updated?
- Continuously. It is the same list handed to churches inside Marketing Co-op, and tools get removed when they stop earning their place.
